Whatever Happened To The Desk From The Godfather?

The Godfather movies, especially the first two, are seen as some of the greatest movies ever made. Many of the most iconic images from the movie are of Don Corleone (Marlon Brando), sat in his office chair behind a desk. So the question is, ‘whatever happened to the desk from The Godfather?’.

Don Corleone The Godfather Desk

Released in 1972, ‘The Godfather’ is now approaching its 50th anniversary. For those who have not seen the movie, it was directed by Francis Ford Copolla and featured stars such as Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, and Robert Duvall.

The story spans from 1945 to 1955 and chronicles the Corleone family under the leadership of Vito ‘Don’ Corleone. Much of the story focuses on the transformation of his son, Michael Corleone, from a reluctant family outsider to a ruthless mafia boss.

In 1990, the movie was selected for preservation in the US National Film Registry in the Library of Congress. The film was deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.

Where Are The Desk And Chair From ‘The Godfather’ Today?

So what happened to the desk, and chair, that Don Corleone spent much of his time using? Well, the desk and chair were kept by the director Francis Ford Coppola, who still owns them to this day.

The Godfather Desk and Chair

The desk and chair are open to view by the public at the Coppola Winery located in Geyserville, California. The winery features a swimming pool, movie gallery, wine tasting events, and dining. It also caters for weddings and other such large events.

Anyone visiting the Coppola winery will be able to view the desk and chair for themselves…however, you can’t touch it!

The Godfather Sign

As you can see, half a century on, the desk and chair from The Godfather movies are still in great condition. And thankfully, open to view by the general public, rather than stuck in someone’s private office.
